Expertise, creativity and innovation to hone in on eclectic subjects is what characterises the Rmn Grand Palais publications and Art Studios. It is our interest in breaking new ground, combined with a constant quest for quality, that continues to be so popular with so many partners.
2021 was a particularly prolific year for the Rmn Grand Palais publications. Books saw a significant upturn due to a varied programme, driven by the renewed activity of the bookstores; publishing success came with the exhibition catalogues (Vivian Maier; Anselm Kiefer. For Paul Celan; David Hockney. A Year in Normandy; Hip-hop 360; Ultimate Combat) and publications for young people (Terra Ultima; La Fontaine s Fables). This latter sector also saw a collaboration with the national education system, for the Un livre pour les vacances ( A book for the holidays ) campaign. The Rmn Grand Palais therefore helped ensure that all pupils leaving CM2 (Year 6) for 6e (Year 7) received a volume of these essential stories by La Fontaine, complete with illustrator Rébecca Dautremer s highly original interpretation. In order to best present the depth of the catalogue, but also to fully highlight the expertise of the institution's publishing house, it finally created a dedicated website: editions. rmngp.fr, also featuring news articles, and will be supplemented effectively by social media.
2021 was equally significant for the Art Studios, with their activities in constant development. Collaborations with contemporary artists were extended and reinvigorated. At the Casting Studio, Daniel Arsham confirmed his confidence in the workshops and craftspeople, while Martin Margiela initiated a new collaboration, which is already set to be extended. Meanwhile, the Chalcography Studio supported two artists. The internationally-renowned Annette Messager developed a serious and touching work, while the young and talented Rosanna Lefeuvre designed a subtle plate, introducing colour and textural effects that echo her photographic and textile productions. Finally, it is important to highlight the great capacity for adaptation both in terms of the Ateliers and books that was demonstrated during this period in which the health crisis continued to have an effect. The strong international pressure on the supply of materials, especially paper and cardboard, led to longer deadlines and a sharp rise in the price of raw materials, which made the day-to-day work particularly difficult for the Rmn Grand Palais publications.
