In 2021, the Rmn Grand Palais carried out a series of works in order to improve the working conditions of employees throughout the establishment, as well as helping to develop reception and retail areas in the museums.
IMPROVING WORKSPACES The Buildings Department continued work to maintain and improve the facilities at the Rmn Grand Palais head office, located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. Several operations helped make the building more comfortable for employees, including balancing the networks and improving cold management in the offices. The team in charge of building management also took part in the project to reorganise the head office and review the types of spaces. It helped to devise various studies and lent its technical expertise for the upcoming implementation phase. Finally, in order to bring the Garonor warehouse up to current lighting standards, all the lighting in its spaces was changed: the halogen lights were abandoned in favour of LED technology, which is more energy efficient.
A NEW LIVING ROOF 2021 also saw the completion of the building s living roof project. In 2017, the Rmn Grand Palais signed the Objectif 100 hectares charter initiated by the City of Paris to promote the inclusion of more green spaces in the built environment and the development of urban agriculture. As such, among the forty or so sites proposed, the establishment submitted its application and made its roof available as part of the 2018 "Parisculteurs" call for projects. The selected proposal was designed as a comprehensive project combining the aesthetic and innovative urban production of fruits, vegetables and flowers cultivated using the aquaponics method. Aquaponics is a method of cultivation that combines fish farming (aquaculture) and soilless plant cultivation (hydroponics) in a single water recirculation
system. It requires only a small amount of new water to be added, unlike conventional aquaculture and vegetable crop systems. The plants are stacked in towers and their roots are watered with the water used to rear the fish, thereby capturing the nutrients required for their development. The installation, which was completed and inaugurated on 5 July 2021, produced its first harvest this year, which was made available to employees in the form of boxes. It was also distributed locally to shops near the head office. Activities such as workshops are also being studied in order to share this innovative project with all employees.
HELPING TO DESIGN RECEPTION AND RETAIL SPACES The buildings department plays an active role in setting up the retail areas managed by the Rmn Grand Palais and improving them throughout their operation. A few highlights in 2021 include:
− Designing and overseeing the construction of the new Seine counter at the Musée d'Orsay;
− Support for the contact won in December 2020 for the Centre Pompidou, which was delivered at the end of April 2021;
− Carrying out the design project for the shop at the Musée Picasso: the cash desk and table units were delivered;
− Carrying out the design project for the shop at the Château de Fontainebleau;
− Carrying out the design project for the reception at the Musée Magnin in Dijon;
− Improving certain technical systems in the shops at the Château de Versailles.
