Acquiring artworks to enrich the national collections is one of the historic principles of the Rmn Grand Palais. It imparts its expertise to SCN museums (those with national scope) and certain public establishments, manages the acquisition procedures for national treasures and works of major interest for national heritage on behalf of the state, and administers donations and legacies which contribute towards financing acquisitions for national collections.
SUPPORTING SCN MUSEUMS, THE CHÂTEAU DE FONTAINEBLEAU, THE MUSÉE DE LA CÉRAMIQUE IN SEVRES AND THE MUSÉE ADRIEN DUBOUCHÉ IN LIMOGES The Rmn Grand Palais oversees the running of the acquisition committee and manages the State subsidy for the SCN museums, the Château de Fontainebleau, the Ceramics museum in Sèvres and the Adrien-Dubouché museum in Limoges. It supports projects, from the presentation of works to the committees, to their entry into the national collections and payment. 66 paid-for acquisition operations and 41 free-of-charge acquisitions were carried out in 2021, which maintained a steady pace despite the health crisis, with the total value amounting to 2.75 million. In addition to the state subsidy of 1.11 million for the acquisitions of these museums, other sources of funding include the national heritage fund, cash from donations and legacies, sponsorship, museums own funds and works donated or bequeathed.
NATIONAL TREASURES AND WORKS OF MAJOR INTEREST FOR NATIONAL HERITAGE The institution implements the acquisition procedures for national treasures and works of major interest for national heritage. Financing sources are most often a combination of public subsidies and state collections with corporate and private donations. Thus, in 2021, these acquisitions represented 22.17 million for four national treasures and three works of major interest for national heritage, with 16.72 million of this being funded with the help of contributions from corporate sponsors.
